As Nokia making a full stake of Symbian and all Symbian products, there is a bright future for further integration of Flash Lite on to mobile phones. We can see more and more Flash Lite enables phones in market in near future.

From Washingtonpost :

Nokia announced this morning that it will pay $410 million to buy the remaining shares of Symbian that it did not already own and then turn the assets into a foundation that provides open-source software to developers.

In terms of Flash Lite

Technology integration: This sounds like a pretty inclusive policy. The foundation will provide the integration of such environments as Java, Adobe FlashLite and Microsoft Silverlight.

Driving innovation: Everyone on the call this morning seemed to echo the same idea that by being open-source and opening the code up, it will drive innovation and make the platform a leader. Mats Lindoff, CTO, Sony Ericsson: "Through its openness and completeness, it will fuel innovation, and it will bring growth to the mobile industry, service providers, developers and consumers, as well." Motorola VP Christy Wyatt: "By unifying the ecosystem today and by leveraging existing technology, we believe the combined efforts will truly accelerate the Symbian ecosystem, and provide greater opportunities for ourselves and partners."

Good news for all including the developer as Nokia-Symbian is going for open-source business model as for consumer we should see cheaper price of mobile phones and smartphones.

Flashlite Requirement For Blizzard Job Ad

World of Warcraft(WoW) will stomp the mobile, based on rumors and job ads that blizzard had put on Blizzard site. They are searching for a lead mobile software engineer, an associate software engineer , and a mobile software engineer on the mobile team. In the ad says “ Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an individual to lead a mobile development programming team. The ideal applicant will possess outstanding communication and coordination skills and be capable of leading a group of programmers in bringing Blizzard-IP-related functions to the mobile space. The candidate would be experienced with web-related technologies, MIDP and CLDC development on the J2ME platform, WAP, and WML. Blizzard offers a fun, creative and technically challenging environment with excellent compensation and a full range of benefits.”

Additional requirement is that they must have the understanding of BREW, WAP, SMS, MMS, J2EE, Symbian and FlashLite experience. You will be a full-timer in Irvine, California. This will be a (BOOM!!) for the mobile entertainment world and also the WoW fans out there. The spin-off application that will enhance the game foundation, rather than to shoehorn it into a mobile version.

The fact that Adobe has only delivered fair to poor Flash support for any platform outside of Windows is also a significant problem. While the company likes to rattle off the number of devices and operating systems that “support Flash,” it hides the fact that few of those actually support the latest Flash 9, with many stuck at support for Flash 5, 6, or 7.

Mobile devices typically run Flash Lite, which targets a minimal subset of Flash interactivity; the existing Flash Lite 2.0 is based upon the 2003 Flash 7 runtime. The recently announced Flash Lite 3.0 will be the first version that can play Flash video, the primary attraction of Flash on the web.

Flash Lite does not run on the iPhone. At Apple’s recent shareholder meeting, Steve Jobs noted that the Lite version of Flash “is not capable of being used with the web,” meaning it can’t play back content developed for the desktop web browsers, while the full desktop runtime “performs too slow to be useful” on the iPhone.

While Adobe has bundled Flash Lite players for devices running Symbian, Sun’s Java ME, Qualcom’s BREW, and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, it also competes against those platforms for native development attention. It should come as no surprise that once those companies discover this, they will likely react the same way Microsoft did on the Windows desktop. Certainly, once Microsoft can deliver its own mobile version of Silverlight, it will attempt to displace Flash Lite. That’s apparently not too far away; the company recently demonstrated a beta of Silverlight 2 running on Nokia’s Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile devices.
