Sony Ericsson they have announced/mentioned the first mobile phone which supports the Project Capuchin API. It’s the SE C905 phone with Flash Lite 2.0, FM tuner and a 8.1 megapixel camera.

What is Project Capuchin?
Sony Ericsson’s Project Capuchin technology is a Java ME API and associated tools that define a bridge between the Java ME and Adobe Flash Lite programming environments.
This API and soon-to-be-available tools makes it possible to use Flash as the presentation layer and Java as the application logic, meaning that Flash tools can be used for UI design while still having access to all the phone services available to Java ME.
The tool packages the Flash content together with the Java application logic into a Java Archive, JAR file, hence allowing the resulting application and package to be treated and managed as a Java application re-using all of the existing Java infrastructure available on the phone and provisioning backend.

Design of the W7 is familiar to the iriver W10 that supposed to be released in the US last summer, although the company has never gone on record about this, many regard the W7 as the wifi-less replacement of the W10. It is equipped with a 3-inch passive touchscreen (480 x 272) that responds to taps from the included stylus, fingertips, fingernails, and any other pointed object. Adobe Flash Lite 2.0.2 is available and it is strictly reserved for games.

Adobe Flash Lite is a lightweight version of Adobe Flash Player optimized for mobile phones and other non-phone, portable electronic devices like Chumby and iRiver. Flash Lite 1.1 supports Flash 4 ActionScript. Flash Lite 2.0, based on Flash Player 7, supports Flash 7’s more powerful ActionScript 2.0. Flash Lite 3 allows mobile device manufacturers, operators and content providers to differentiate their offerings by giving users the ability to watch Flash Player compatible video, the world’s most popular video format, and browse Flash enabled Web sites when integrated with a mobile Web browser. All versions also support the W3C Standard SVG Tiny (a mobile profile of W3C’s Scalable Vector Graphics recommendation). The advantage over SVG is the ability to add audio and interactive elements without the use of other technologies such as JavaScript.

Flash Lite is considered a client-side, or user interface (UI) layer, development technology. In this realm Flash Lite competes with other technologies like Qualcomm’s uiOne markup language and Sun’s JavaFX Script. Because of the more powerful ActionScript advances it is more able to integrate with and even compete with device-layer technologies like J2MEBREW. Flash Lite should not be considered a mobile operating system like Symbian OS, Windows Mobile, Mac OS X for mobile. and

As with Flash, Flash Lite benefits from the ability to read and redraw external XML content.

Future

During the Adobe 2007 Financial Analyst Meeting , several key developments and forecasts of Flash Lite were presented.

In December 2006, 220M Flash Lite devices had been shipped. This is predicted to approach 1.2B in 2010, mostly due to the acquisition of some key vector rendering technology by Actimagine which will reduce the Flash Lite player memory footprint.
